Check this out - MYNTRA
An interesting marriage of good old e-commerce platform with web 2.0 collaborative features.
Shopping online, that's nothing new but what if you don't like the boring, out of the box designs. Well here you can play designer & create your own cool designs and not only buy it yourself, you can sell it to the world, get comments and critique on your work. The designs can be tagged for easy searching and you pocket cool 10% every time someone's buys it. Also the site has a very pleasant UI and the idea has been executed very well.
To try, I created a design by uploading a picture and customizing it in their online editor (it allows you to select background color, size & position the image ).

On submission, it went for approval. I got an email 2 days later telling me of the approval and availability of the design online. I guess 2 days is a tad long for 24 X 7 online business of today, I created the design on a weekend so maybe that's the reason for delay.
I guess a better way might be to let users flag abusive & explicit designs ( like users can flag posts on Craigslist) instead of approving each which might not be a scalable solution in long term.
Another site which is offering similar concept is DilSeBol. It offers a platform called the "The Artist" to custom design stuff but I did not find a feature to sell your creations like Myntra does.
